Inktober 2023 - Cryptid illustrations for Inktober

The idea behind Inktober is each year, during October, artists all around the world create art based on certain prompts. There are official prompts, or people can create their own. I wasn’t a fan of the official prompts, so I decided to draw different cryptids as I saw this as a great way to practise my drawing. The last time I took part in Inktober I found it incredibly hard to do a different drawing each day so this time I focused on creating 9.
🐙 The Kraken

Fun fact: Unlike today's representations, early descriptions of the Kraken featured crab-like, spindly appendages.

🌲 Wendigo

Fun fact: Wendigos mimic human voices to lure people away from safety to consume or possess them.
🌕🌲 Fresno Nightcrawler

Fun fact: Some Fresno Nightcrawler sightings are simply just a pair of white trousers being puppeteered.
🌵 Cactus Cat

Fun fact: Described as a bobcat-like animal, when they rest, they curl up to look like barrel cacti, with their spines sticking out.
🦋 Mothman

Fun fact: There were reported sightings of the Mothman before the Chernobyl disaster on April 26, 1986.
🐴 Kelpie

Fun fact: The water horse is a common form of the kelpie, said to lure humans into the water to drown them.
🪱 Mongolian Death Worm

Fun fact: Rumoured to live in the southern Gobi Desert, it kills its victims with electric shocks or corrosive venom.
🌲 Hidebehind

Fun fact: Hidebehinds are credited for the disappearances of early colonial loggers when they failed to return to camp.
🎃 Pumpkin

Fun fact: Halloween is older than Christianity and its roots lead back to the pre-Christian Celtic or Pagan celebration of Samhain.
